My sister asked me to make something special for her boys for Valentines Day. I had found this great Black and White Cookie recipe from Zabar’s from the NY Times Cookbook and was waiting to make it. This was the perfect opportunity.
Based on the recipe, I knew the dough would be cake batter-like, instead of cookie-like. It baked beautifully in nice round circles, with slightly brown edges.
I made the icing as specified, one white and one chocolate. Then I started icing the cookies, half white and half black (or chocolate). The chocolate was a little challenging to apply, as it kept thickening. But the outcome was attractive.
It felt good to make something that I would normally buy at a bakery. And it tasted delicious!
